Frequently Asked Questions

How do the Pet Hemp Oil drops work?

Your pet, like any living being, has specific cannabinoid receptors in their brain and central nervous systems that make up what we call the “endocannabinoid system” where the Cannabinoids(CBD products) latch on and support your pets endocannabinoid system. The ways of usage is either orally or topically.

How long does it take for Healthy Roots Paws to work?

It can take 20 minutes to an hour depending on the size of your pet. It is always a good idea when giving CBD to your dog to start off with a small serving and work your way up to a higher serving slowly. Individual results may vary.

Will hemp products get my pet “high”?

Simply, no. Our products will not get you or your pet high. Our specially formulated products contains less than %0.3 THC. THC is the culprit molecule in Cannabis that gets people and pets “high”. Overall, % 0.3 is a very small amount (compared to % 20 - % 30 THC in Marijuana) and will not affect pets and/or people when our products are used as directed.

Are your products only for dogs?

Every mammal including cats and dogs has the Endocannabinoid System which exists naturally inside everyone of us. Unfortunately as of 2019, by law, our products are limited to Cats, Dogs and Horses.

Our customers choose to use our products by observing their pets, after all, pets don’t lie.

Can my pet overdose?

Are your pet hemp products legal?

Our products are pet health products that include hemp oil with a THC concentration of less than 0.03%. The hemp oil in our products is extracted from industrial hemp that is legally grown in Oregon and does not fall within the legal definition of marijuana. Oregon, authorizes the manufacture, distribution and sale of Hemp-CBD pet products containing no more than 0.3 percent total THC. In some states it is unregulated and in others it is simply not allowed and illegal. We highly recommend you to research your home states laws and regulations.

What do you do for quality control and documentation of the active ingredient consistency?

All of our hemp is grown in Oregon on certified organic soil. Our Full spectrum extract is third party tested for pesticides, metals, solvents, microbiology, and potency. Once the raw extract passes all testing it is only then we are able to prepare our products for our customers, including our furry friends. Our manufacturing facility consists of trained and certified personnel who oversee the production of all Healthy Roots Products. Are your source materials tested to 0% THC?

All of our products are batch tested at Columbia Food Labs. Those Certificates of Analysis are displayed on every product on our website, as well as full traceability from batch records to the batch number listed on every bottle with expiration dates. All products are compliant with the 2018 Farm bill and contain less than .3% THC.

Are your products Certified Organic or grown organic agriculture standards?

Yes, our hemp is certified organic with the Oregon Tilth. Oregon Tilth is a leading nonprofit certifier, educator and advocate for organic agriculture and products since 1974. Their mission is to make our food system and agriculture biologically sound and socially equitable. Oregon Tilth has led the way in organic agriculture and sustainable production methods, playing a leading role in the formation of a federal USDA National Organic Program and expanding organic sustainability beyond agriculture to textiles and other products.

Are your products sourced from a grower farm bill compliant?

Yes, the industrial hemp we use is Certified Organic with the Oregon Tilth, and regulated by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Moonridge Farms grows more than just hemp; blueberries, lavender, apples, basil, pumpkin, yacon, and other various crops can be found on this farm. We believe that local and organic is the way to go; this farm proves why we should continue to believe that.

Can you provide, and do you require a proof of origin on your sourced materials?

Yes, our business model is that we oversee every department that makes our products. We take great care in ensuring that we consistently provide the highest quality products for consumers and their pets. We have a supplier approval questionnaire that every vendor has to pass. This ensures the ingredients and where it's sourced from.

How often do you receive a Certificate of Analysis of your sourced materials?

All of our products are batch tested at Columbia Food Labs, a fully ISO 17025 accredited and compliant lab located in Portland, Oregon. We have our products tested at three levels of production - whole-plant hemp, the extracted material, and the final product. We test every batch that is produced and any raw material that is used before formulating.

What does the COA include?

Test results give compositional information about the range of cannabinoids as well as the amount of each cannabinoid. Our lab results are reported as both a percentage and in grams per milligram, which helps us understand the total cannabinoid makeup.

Potency test includes THC, THC-A, THC-V, CBD, CBD-V, CBD-G, CBD-C , CBD-V, CBDN, CBL, CBT compounds found in the sample material. Shows the potency for accurate formulation assessment. We test for contaminants like metals, mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium. Columbia food tests for over 250 pesticides as well as mycotoxins, like e coli, mold, yeast and salmonella. We also test for solvents, to ensure the extraction process was done properly.

If your products come in a chew or ingestible form, what do you do to help increase the efficacy of the phytocannabinoids in these products?

The tinctures have a main carrier of  MCT Fractionated Coconut Oil. The shelf life is 2 years from the manufactured date. It helps with fast absorption rate, making it more effective. For the pet line we use fish oil; the Omega 3s help assist the CBD making it more effective.

Are your products full spectrum or isolates?

Paws CBD is made from organically grown hemp that is then processed into CO2 oil. This a full spectrum crude oil that contains high amounts of other cannabinoids. This ensures an effective product.

Do you have both third parties do an in-house test run on your final products?

We use only third-party testing.

Do you test negative for heavy metals, residual solvents, microbial and fungal contamination and THC?

All of our products have passed all metals and pesticides, solvents, microbial and fungal contamination. THC is all under the .3% and is derived from Industrial hemp. We test for contaminants like metals, mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium. Columbia food tests for over 250 pesticides as well as mycotoxins, like e coli, mold, yeast and salmonella. We also test for solvents, to ensure the extraction process was done properly.

Are the levels in your product looking specifically at MG of Cannabidiol (CBD) or at the full PCR profile?

Our packaging and marketing is based on total CBD content. The other cannabinoids are an extra benefit/bonus for the consumer. We see anywhere from 100 to 300 mg of other cannabinoids in each product.

What methodology did you use to determine your dose recommendations?

We based our dosage off of pet weight (small, medium, and large breeds). Smaller dog breeds might not require as much as larger breeds. The dosage chart we provide with all orders is a suggested dose. These numbers are based on National Animal Supplement Council recommendations. All labels have the information that the consumer is looking for. Doesn’t leave them guessing how to use our product.

Are you or your products involved in any research opportunities for CBD use in veterinary conditions?

Springwater Wellness Center has partnered with Healthy Roots Paws to provide locally grown and manufactured full spectrum hemp products for pets such as cats, dogs and horses. Dr. Scott has been able to help many animals regain a higher quality of life and return to health. We are continuing to undergo stability testing as well as clinical studies.

What is your involvement in the growth and processing of your products?

We are in full control from Plant to Package, that means we oversee everything from cultivation, extraction, packaging and distribution, and know exactly what we are providing to our retail stores and customers.

Would be able to tour the facilities where the product is grown and processed?

Yes! We don’t put all this hard work just for us to enjoy. Hospitality is key to creating trustworthy relationships. We love to display the passion and drive we have for our company. Let us know when you like to tour our facilities.

Our hope is to make all test results to our customers on demand. Would we be able to receive results with every batch?

Yes, we display them on our Instagram, Facebook, and disclose them to every retail store.  We prioritize spending the funds to provide accurate results and are transparent with all of our product information. We take great pride in what we do! There is a batch number on every label that references back the testing lot number.

Do you verify the COA, if so, how often and how are you verifying?

We have master batch records that align with our formulation. Every single batch large or small has a lot and batch testing record. Keeping consistency and using a lab that is accredited is key.

How do you ensure your source product is free of residual toxins common to agriculture: pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, GMOs and synthetic fertilizers/soil additives?

Testing your raw materials is the only way to understand what you are formulating in the kitchen. Hemp is tested for metals, mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium, over 250 pesticides, mycotoxins, e coli, mold, yeast and salmonella. Then the oil is retested again for the full panel testing metals, mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium, over 250 pesticides, mycotoxins, e coli, mold, yeast and salmonella and solvents.  Then the final product is tested for metals, mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium, over 250 pesticides, mycotoxins, e coli, mold, yeast and salmonella and solvents.

What certifications does the manufacturing comply with?

Our facility is registered with the Food and Drug Association, and certified with the Oregon Department of Agriculture. We have our food processing license and enforce good manufacturing practices. We are members of the National Animal Supplement Council.

What is your extraction process?

We use the CO2 extraction method. CO2 has a unique solubility that will change with pressure, allowing for fractionation of the many different types of biomolecules available in hemp strains. CO2 extraction can be used to pull various cannabinoids from the plant such as THCA, CBD, CBG, THCV as well as terpenes and other compounds.

At what points of your processing are tests run to verify safety and efficacy of products?

There are many factors that play a part in Good Manufacturing Practices: storing material at the proper temperature, keeping track of amounts that are being extracted, properly cleaning glassware, proper sanitary procedures. We prioritize having Good Manufacturing Practices and undergo extensive third party audits.

Do you have product liability insurance for your hemp-based products?

Yes, we have a 2 million-dollar insurance policy on all our products and we would be more than happy to provide proof of insurance. As well as list you as an additional insurer. We want to be the company that others want to follow, do things right, providing a trustworthy brand.
